|That's me on vacation in India, enjoying a refreshing drink of coconut water|
I am a scientist by day, with a background in biochemistry and nutrition. I have a strong interest in the science behind cooking, developing new recipes, and food photography. However, I have no formal training in any of these, so one of the reasons for this blog is to try my hand at these creative endeavors through trial and error and through the wonderful tutorials available on the web.
Another reason I started this blog was to be able to catalog my favorite recipes in one spot. In this blog, you will find a smattering of recipes, all vegetarian, some vegan, that have been tested in my kitchen. I have no fancy equipment in my kitchen -- in fact, I don't even own a food processor. Also, most recipes can be made ahead or made very quickly, so the recipes should be very easy to replicate in your own kitchen.
I also love to travel, when time and the wallet permit me to do so. This site will also feature travel stories, generally centered around world cuisines.
Finally, given my interest and background in nutrition, I would like to offer you tidbits of nutrition information on select ingredients in recipes. I fully believe that one should eat food and not nutrients, so this nutrition information will not read like the daily values on a package of food, but will be used to highlight the overall nutritional benefits of foods in various recipes.
Since I am of Indian (as in from India) origin, you may find that many of my recipes call for Indian spices. Most of these are readily available in Indian stores across the US. From time to time, I will also hold giveaways where fresh spices will be on offer to readers who participate in the giveaway, so stay tuned for these.
Lastly, I would like to say that the main motivation for my writing is your reading of it. So please do drop me a line if you like what you see. If you'd like to see something else, please let me know. Well, that's enough rambling about myself. Since you're here, please... linger for a while...look through my site...and I wish you Bon appetit!
